The Yorkshire Museum & Jorvik Centre - Monday 18th November

To enhance and bring to life our KS2 pupils learning on this terms topic of “The struggle for Britain and especially York, by the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings” we are planning a visit to The Yorkshire Museum and The Jorvik Viking Centre in York on Monday 18th November.  Pupils will take part in a “Struggle for York” workshop and get up close with what life was like in Anglo Saxon and Viking times.

All pupils will need to bring a packed lunch and drink from home (and ideally a backpack to carry it in) and must have a coat as they will be walking from one site to the other.

Children in Need - Friday 15th November

The school is pleased to inform you that we will be once again supporting Children in Need. This is a very worthwhile charity that provides grants to projects in the UK, which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged.  We will be having a non-uniform day on Friday 15th November and pupils will be asked to make a voluntary contribution of £1 to wear non-uniform. Pupils are welcome to wear Pudsey items, but please note that there is non-obligation to buy new items for the occasion.  All monies raised will go directly to the Children in Need charity.

Anti-Bullying - Odd Socks Day - Tuesday 12th November

We're wearing ODD SOCKS for Anti-Bullying Week!

Will you?

Monday 11th November - Open Morning for 2020 & 2021 New Starters - 9:00am-12:00 Midday

I would like to invite those with children who will be starting nursery or school in either 2020 or 2021 to attend our Open Day on Monday 11th November.  This will be a chance for you to see what we do, as the school will be at work as usual.  To aid organisation it would be good if you could contact the office and arrange a time slot.  This will ensure that you have a personal guided tour and any questions can be answered.  Please feel free to bring the potential new starter with you!  If this date is not convenient please do contact school to make an alternative appointment.  Do please share this invitation with those you know may be considering our school.

Friday 8th November - Remembrance Service

As in previous years our Remembrance Service started at Our Lady & St. Benedict’s at 10:15am and we walked (through the churchyard and down Back Lane) to St. Hilda’s (crossing Station Road).

Pupils attended a joint Remembrance Service with pupils from St Benedict’s.  This was, as ever, a very moving service and pupil’s behaviour was exemplary.

Thursday 17th October - Harvest Festival Celebration

Our Harvest Service will take place in the school hall on Thursday 17th October at 2:45pm.  Parents, grandparents and friends are welcome to attend the service.

Tuesday 15th October - Parents' Evening

Parents' Evening takes place before half term.  This is an important part of our partnership with you.  Please book appointments now.  Please know that we have an open-door policy, so please continue to liaise with class teachers prior to Parents' Evening as and when you need to.

Friday 4th October - Y3-Y4 Football

At a blustery Ryedale School, Y3/4 pupils competed well in the inter schools competition. Once again there was great team spirit with goals and a victory to savour too!  Thanks again to Mrs O'Donnell for accompanying us.

Friday 27th September - Y5-Y6 Football

Y5 and Y6 pupils played well in an inter school’s competition at Ryedale School last Friday against some very strong teams.  Pupils played the games in a good spirit, supported each other and took on board the excellent coaching offered by the Ryedale Sports leaders.  Thank you for accompanying us Mrs O’Donnell.

Tuesday 24th September - Ryedale School Presentation Evening

Year 6 pupils and parents are invited to a presentation evening to be held this year at St Benedict’s Primary School on Tuesday 24th September.

Letters from Ryedale School were sent home on Monday.

Tuesday 10th September - Cultural Diversity Day

The children enjoyed a fantastic day with Yazi on Tuesday.  We started the day with an assembly where Yazi introduced herself in Urdu. She explained about her Muslim faith and her family's roots in Kashmir. The children then enjoyed workshops with Yazi where they cooked chapattis, learnt to write Arabic letters, painted special patterns and dressed up and danced to Bollywood music. They also tried some delicious sweet and savoury snacks which were very much enjoyed.

Thank you Yazi for giving us a fantastic and interesting day!
