Class Organisation
Our Nursery pupils are taught with Reception each morning by Miss Kirk. Our Years 1 and 2 are taught by Miss Dunning each morning. In the afternoon our Reception pupils are sometimes taught discretely but are often joined by Years 1 and 2 and are taught by Miss Kirk. There is very close liaison between Miss Kirk and Miss Dunning.
* | Acorn Class | Foundation, Years 1 and 2 | Children aged - 3+to 7 |
* | Oak Class | Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 | Children aged - 7 to 11 |
Acorn Class has access to the outside play/learning areas which are well equipped for FS/KS1 children. The children from Oak Class also use this and the rest of the outside space for learning and play activities.
The mixed age, mixed ability nature of both classes provides us with the flexibility to meet each child’s needs and encourages the children to respect each other’s strengths and talents.
We use the school hall or village hall, for physical education, drama and dance lessons. The school takes part in inter-school sporting competitions as part of the Ryedale School Sports Partnership. Oak Class pupils have a block of swimming lessons each academic year.
The curriculum is planned on two (Acorn Class) and four (Oak Class) year cycles. This avoids duplication and ensures progression. We work thematically, linking the learning for each curriculum area to overarching themes. It is enriched by visitors to school and educational visits out of school and is exciting and relevant.
