Friday 13th March – Sport Relief
We will be celebrating Sport Relief on Friday 13th March and invite pupils to come to school dressed in their favourite sports clothes. It might be a football or rugby shirt, dancing costume or horse-riding outfit, the choice is yours.

Thursday 5th March – World Book Day
We made character bookmarks, completed book code breaker activities and book scavenger hunts. In the afternoon we all shared stories and hot chocolate in our slippers.
We also received a message from one of our favourite authors, along with our favourite quote from his story ‘Chocolate Cake’.

Tuesday 3rd March – RNLI Visit
This week we have welcomed the RNLI to inform the pupils about keeping safe at the seaside. Further information can be found by clicking here and here. We are delighted to welcome such visitors as they are always so informative and also help our pupils to see the range of future jobs and careers that are out there!

Tuesday 11th February – Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day 2020 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday 11th February, with the theme: ‘Together for a better internet’. In both schools, Internet safety is taught at an age appropriate level regularly throughout the school. If you have any concerns or would like some guidance, please speak with Mr Pynn who is the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Please click here for more information.
In addition, National Online Safety has produced a useful range of free guides for adults on internet safety.

Friday 7th February – NSPCC Number Day
Well done to everyone for taking part in the NSPCC Number Day today by wearing something with a number on it. We had a lovely time reading number stories and doing lots of maths games and activities. We raised £18.02.

Friday 7th February – Y1-2 Multiskills
It was great to see Y1 and Y2 work together and enjoy the multi-skills so much at Ryedale School last Friday. Huge thanks to Mrs Gordon-Finlayson and Mrs O’Donnell for accompanying us.

Friday 24th January – Christingle News
Thank you to all those who brought along Christingle collection candles for the Christingle Service in December. The total raised came to £107.70.
This will be sent to support the work of the Children’s Society.

Christmas Eve – Crib Service
St Hilda’s Church, Ampleforth, will be holding a ‘Crib Service’ at 3:00pm on Christmas Eve. Families and small children are especially welcome.
From all the staff here at St. Hilda’s Primary School, we would like to wish you all a very
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We hope you and your families have a wonderful Christmas.
See you in 2020!

Friday 20th December – Christmas Tree
Thank you to Newburgh Priory, Coxwold who have kindly provided us with our real Christmas Tree again this year.

Friday 20th December – Christingle Service
The Christingle Service this year will be held at St Hilda’s Church at 2:30pm on Friday 20th December. Parents and friends are very welcome to attend. Parents attending the service can take pupils home at the end of the service.
A Christingle collection candle in support of The Children’s Society has gone home with each family. There is no obligation to donate, but any contributions will be gratefully received at the Christingle Service. Thank you.
Thursday 19th December – Christmas Craft Session
On Thursday 19th December, Miss Kirk, Mrs Lealman and Miss Dunning would like to invite Nursery to Year 2 parents to join us for a Christmas crafts session. It will be held in the school hall from 9:00am -10:30am. We would love to see you there.

Thursday 19th December – Christmas Party!
All children can come to school dressed in their party clothes as we will be having our party in the afternoon.
Wednesday 18th December – Pantomime Trip
We are delighted to say that we have again organised a trip to the Pantomime later
this term, and will be going to see Cinderella at the Scarborough Spa on Wednesday
18th December for a 10.00am performance.
In order to give ourselves plenty of time to travel and get to our seats we need to
leave as early as possible. Could we therefore ask pupils to be at school ready to
leave by 8:40am so that the bus can depart as soon as the school taxi has arrived.
This is always an enjoyable trip, and really gets us into the Christmas spirit!

Tuesday 17th December – Christmas Lunch
Mrs Hawley will be preparing a delicious Christmas Lunch for us on Tuesday 17th December. Children are invited to wear a festive jumper or hat for the occasion.

Tuesday 17th December – Christmas Performance
The Christmas Performance will take place on Tuesday 17th December at 6:00pm at
St Hilda’s Church. Please ensure children arrive at church, in their costumes, no later than 5:45pm.
If your child/ren are unable to attend on the evening, please can you let their class teacher know as soon as possible to avoid any upset or confusion. Thank you.

Wednesday 4th December – Early Reading and Phonics Workshop
After the success and positive feedback following our Phonics workshop for parents at the beginning of November, we are pleased to be able to offer a second session for those unable to attend last time. The workshop will run from 3:30pm – 4:30pm on Wednesday 4th December and will be held in Miss Dunning’s classroom. Please note that children are welcome to stay with you while you attend the session.

Friday 15th November – Children in Need
The school is pleased to inform you that we will be once again supporting Children in Need. This is a very worthwhile charity that provides grants to projects in the UK, which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged. We will be having a non-uniform day on Friday 15th November and pupils will be asked to make a voluntary contribution of £1 to wear non-uniform. Pupils are welcome to wear Pudsey items, but please note that there is non-obligation to buy new items for the occasion. All monies raised will go directly to the Children in Need charity.

Tuesday 12th November – Anti-Bullying – Odd Socks Day
We’re wearing ODD SOCKS for Anti-Bullying Week!
Will you?
Monday 11th November – Open Morning for 2020 & 2021 New Starters – 9:00am-12:00 Midday
I would like to invite those with children who will be starting nursery or school in either 2020 or 2021 to attend our Open Day on Monday 11th November. This will be a chance for you to see what we do, as the school will be at work as usual. To aid organisation it would be good if you could contact the office and arrange a time slot. This will ensure that you have a personal guided tour and any questions can be answered. Please feel free to bring the potential new starter with you! If this date is not convenient please do contact school to make an alternative appointment. Do please share this invitation with those you know may be considering our school.

Friday 8th November – Remembrance Service
As in previous years our Remembrance Service started at Our Lady & St. Benedict’s at 10:15am and we walked (through the churchyard and down Back Lane) to St. Hilda’s (crossing Station Road).
Pupils attended a joint Remembrance Service with pupils from St Benedict’s. This was, as ever, a very moving service and pupil’s behaviour was exemplary.

Wednesday 3rd October – Zoo Animals on School Field!
Children discovered footage of zoo animals running through our school field today! They looked for clues and investigated what might have happened.
Over the next few weeks before half term, we will be seeing how this event links to our new class text – ‘Manfred the Baddie’.

Tuesday 10th September – Cultural Diversity Day
The children enjoyed a fantastic day with Yazi on Tuesday. We started the day with an assembly where Yazi introduced herself in Urdu. She explained about her Muslim faith and her family’s roots in Kashmir. The children then enjoyed workshops with Yazi where they cooked chapattis, learnt to write Arabic letters, painted special patterns and dressed up and danced to Bollywood music. They also tried some delicious sweet and savoury snacks which were very much enjoyed.
Thank you Yazi for giving us a fantastic and interesting day!
