Friday 31st March 2017 - Quicksticks Hockey Year 5-6

Many congratulations to the team, coached by Mrs Carter, who finished 3rd on Friday at the tournament held at Ryedale. All teams played very well and tried their best. There were some excellent saves made and clever attacking moves. I was especially impressed with the excellent teamwork. Mrs Carter was very proud of all involved. Thank you to Mrs Wood for accompanying pupils to the recent tournaments.

I'd like to celebrate the achievements of all the pupils who took part in the Swimming Gala last Friday.  I am impressed by your efforts, your behaviour and your support for other pupils who took part.  I'd like to thank Mrs Martindale and Mrs Dodds-Aston for staffing this event and to all those parents who kindly volunteered transport and supported the children. - Mr Pynn

Monday 6th February 2017 - Box2bfit

Following on from the success of our Skip2bfit day last year, on Monday 6th February we had a Box2bfit day in school.  Children took part in boxing fitness training.  The exercises were incorporated into a number of circuits which are all set to music.  Pupils really enjoyed the 'Box2bfit' workshops and completed a variety of circuit training style activities.  This event was funded from our Sport Premium money and continues our plan to have a headline event each term designed to motivate and inspire.  Such events have included the visit of the Climbing Wall last summer and the visit of Chris Tomlinson, Olympic long jumper in the autumn.  Pupil feedback about all these events has been very positive and pupils were again complimented on their willingness to have a go and their manners. Well done everyone!

Friday 20th January 2017 - Youth Sport Trust Bronze Quality Mark

I am delighted to announce that very recently both St Hilda's, Ampleforth and Hovingham CE VC Primary Schools have been awarded the Youth Sport Trust Bronze Quality Mark for their commitment to physical education (PE) and school sport.  The Youth Sport Trust is a national charity that is building a brighter future for young people through the power of sport.  The Quality Mark is an online self-review tool which provides schools with a nationally recognised award for the quality of their PE and school sport.  The tool supports schools to audit their PE provision and identify priorities for their development.

27th September 2016 - Chris Tomlinson (GB Athlete) Visit

A huge thank you to Chris Tomlinson, Olympic long jumper, for visiting us on Tuesday. We all enjoyed the circuit training he did with us and the answers he gave to our questions.  His advice was truly motivational, everything we do deserves 100% effort and nobody can ask for any more than that!  There can be little more inspiring than a top sporting star spending time working with our children.

23rd September 2016 - Ampleforth College Tennis Coach

"On 23rd September 2016 we had a tennis coach come in to teach us tennis.  Adam from Ampleforth College taught us how to serve, volley and rally.  At the end he gave us wrist bands and an Andy Murray poster.  Everyone thought it was great and hope to do it again."   Please click here to view the photographs

School Year 2015/2016

1st July 2016 - Year 3 and 4 Rounders at Ryedale School

Last Friday the children in Y3 and Y4 displayed great sporting skills in the competition at Ryedale last Friday.  Play was of a high standard and got better as the games went on.  Overall the two teams came second and third which was a fantastic result as we played with two smaller teams rather than having lots of extras.  Well done Y3 and Y4!

 27th May 2016 - Climbing Wall

On the last day of term, the pupils from Hovingham School will be joining us at St. Hilda’s for the whole day. A climbing wall has been organised for the children and everyone (R-Y6) will get a session on the wall at some point during the day.  The children will also be having a picnic lunch so let’s hope the weather remains sunny and warm.  Click here to view the photographs

"Many thanks for the opportunity to bring the climbing wall to your school today.  It was great to see all the children giving the wall a go, even if they initially had reservations.  Their enthusiasm and support for their classmates also had to be admired, as too were their great manners - all the children were a real credit to your school.  Great to see several of the staff trying out their skills on the climbing wall too!!"  justClimb
