24th June 2016
The Ukulele Club have been having lots of fun but have also been working really hard and have been practising songs in the key of 'F' including Cockles & Mussels, Singing In The Rain and probably our favourite of all, Rockin All Over The World. We do a pretty good impression of Status Quo on that one!!
We have also been learning some songs in the key of 'C' which includes the chords of 'C', 'F' and the very tricky 'G7'! When The Saints Go Marching In is one of the songs we have learnt in this key. If we add the chord of 'Am' we can also play Octopus' Garden.
We have also been learning the chord of 'Dm' and we now do a lovely version of Scarborough Fair.
Finally we have been learning some Blues chords and we do a blues tune in the key if 'A'. We have also been using these chords to learn the old Elvis Presley hit Blue Suede Shoes!!
27th May 2016
Mr Swann will continue to run the Ukulele Club at St. Hilda’s after school on Fridays. It will be open to children in KS2 from both schools. This will start on Friday 10th June. There will be places for 10, so we will work on a first come first served basis.
The Ukulele Club has been running at St. Hilda's for two terms now. It is run by Mr. Swann after school on a Friday and involves children from Year 3 to Year 6 from both St. Hilda's and Hovingham schools.
Initially it was funded by NYMAZ the North Yorkshire Music organisation. They funded the purchase of 10 Ukuleles, so the children could learn how to play.
The Ukulele is a simple and versatile instrument which is easy to learn and is ideal for children. The first few chords they learnt were one finger chords in the key of F and now they are learning chords in the key of C. The children can play many songs ranging from The Wheels On The Bus to Yellow Submarine to Rocking All Over The World.
The children have already performed at a couple of school events including the Christingle Service at Christmas.
