Early Years - Homepage

We are constantly seeking to develop the early years ‘choosing’ provision. We are striving to provide enough challenges for the children and present them with meaningful opportunities for them to practice their reading, writing and number skills.

17th - 23rd March - Sport Relief 2018

This year as part of the national Sport Relief fundraising activities we have decided to set each school a sponsored challenge. Between Monday 19th February and Friday 23rd March (Sport Relief night) we are challenging the pupils to collectively walk/run/cycle a total distance of 947 miles which is the equivalent of walking from their school to London, then Cardiff, then Dublin and finally Edinburgh. If every pupil could cover just 5 miles per week we can achieve it!

Our challenge is therefore called “Give Me 5!”.  We’re asking pupils to collect sponsor money to spur them on in their challenge and of course they don’t just have to walk, they can swim, run, cycle or whatever it is that keeps them active, and of course they can do as many miles a week as they like. There will be a prize for the child in each class who covers the greatest distance and every child will get a certificate to commemorate their achievement.

Everyone has brought home a sponsor form and a record sheet to record all their activity. They can then bring this sheet into school so their total travelled can be added to the school map to show the collective progress.

I hope parents will encourage pupils to take part and help them to record all their activity from walking to school to their weekly swimming lesson. Let’s see how far we can travel!

Tuesday 13th March - Super Hero Day!

On Tuesday 13th March, we will be holding a Super Hero Day in memory of
Harry Flatt, on his birthday.  We’d like to encourage all pupils to come to school dressed as a super hero where they will take part in some super hero themed work during the day.  The children’s work will then be on display in school from 3:15pm and there will be a cake stall, teas and coffees available to raise funds for the Candlelighters charity which supported Harry and his family.  We’ll obviously be needing lots of cakes on the day, so please make a note in your diary.

Thursday 1st March - World Book Day 2018

Thursday 1st March is World Book Day. As usual we’d love it if pupils came to school dressed as a favourite character, but additionally this year pupils need to find one really weird or fascinating fact about their character to share with everyone else!

£1 Book Token - Every pupil has now received a £1 Book Token so please check your child’s book bag. The vouchers are valid from Monday 26th February to Sunday 25th March (inclusive). Please click on the below link to see the £1 books for World Book Day 2018

Unwanted Books Plea - If you've finished the latest bestseller, have some books you'll never read again or it's just time for a clear out, please can send your unwanted books to school and we will donate them to a local charity to help spread the gift of reading.

World Book Day Selfie Challenge - To make World Book Day even more fun, we challenge pupils to bring in a photo of themselves reading to someone, be it younger siblings, older relatives, or even the family pet. There will be a prize for the best picture!

Science Selfie

Please can pupils bring in or email ( a selfie of themselves enjoying science outside of school by Friday 23rd February. Your selfies could include a visit or taking part in a science activity at home. Be as creative as you like and include captions if you wish.

There has been a wonderful response to the Science Selfie challenge. Do keep sending them in and having scientific discussions at home! To see the photos please click here.

Friday 9th February - Chinese Food Tasting

Tuesday 6th February 2018 - Safer Internet Day

In both schools we frequently share with pupils the importance of accessing the internet safely. Safer Internet Day 2018 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday 6th February 2018 with the slogan “Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you”. provides tips and advice for parents and carers.

Wednesday 31st January - Cosmodome Visit

The University of York brought their inflatable Cosmodrome to school.  All pupils from Reception to Year 6 had a session inside the inflatable Planetarium.

Reception flew through the Solar System looking at the planets. We watched the Sun move across the sky and discovered what happens to the stars during the day time. We heard the stories behind some of the constellations. We watched a short animation about space exploration.

It was a real ‘wow’ experience!
